Grants of up to $2,500 to New York City schools, community gardens, botanical institutions, and nonprofit organizations for environmental projects that beautify the local community. Funding is also available for activities to teach gardening skills to residents, to develop knowledge of and appreciation for nature, and to support the improvement and preservation of the city’s environment. Preference will be given to small, underfunded projects where a City Gardens Club grant will make a significant difference.

The mission of the Club is to preserve, enrich, and increase the natural beauty of the environment, with special regard to New York City, for the public benefit through education, horticulture, conservation and other related undertakings.

The committee’s goals include:

  • Preserving and/or upgrading community gardens and public spaces, both old and new
  • Supporting viable start-up projects that offer interactive learning opportunities
  • Educating community members in developing gardening skills and supplying them with plants and garden-related materials.
