Grant Description

Cooperative agreements to USA nonprofit organizations, government agencies, tribal governments, IHEs, school districts, and faith-based organizations for programs that prevent falls amongst elderly individuals and individuals with disabilities. Required registrations may take several weeks to complete.

The purpose of this funding opportunity is to support organizations to reduce falls and/or falls risk among older adults and adults with disabilities in their community through the implementation of evidence-based falls prevention programs, focusing on those older adults in underserved areas/populations as defined by the Executive Order On Advancing Racial Equity and Support for Underserved Communities Through the Federal Government.

The two primary goals are:

Goal 1: Develop capacity to increase the number of older adults and adults with disabilities who participate in evidence-based falls prevention programs to empower them to reduce falls and/or their risk of falls.
Goal 2: Identify and implement one or more robust strategies that will promote the sustainability of evidence-based falls prevention programs.

Applicants for this funding opportunity must propose to deliver two or more falls prevention programs.

All applicants must propose to implement at least one of the identified programs in a remote format, e.g., by video conference or similar virtual modality.

Additional Criteria for Eligibility

For FY 2023 the below guidance is provided to advance the Administration’s policy, as stated in E.O. 13985, to “pursue a comprehensive approach to advancing equity for all, including people of color and others who have been historically underserved, marginalized, and adversely affected by persistent poverty and inequality.” This guidance is intended to begin to address inequities in HHS programs, processes, and policies that may serve as barriers to equal opportunity.

Domestic public or private non-profit entities including state governments, county governments, city or township governments, special district governments, Native American governments, public and state controlled institutions of higher education, private institutions of higher education, public housing authorities/Indian housing authorities, Native American tribal organizations, nonprofits having a 501(c)(3) status, independent school districts, faith-based organizations, and community organizations.

The following activities are not fundable:
- Construction and/or major rehabilitation of buildings
- Basic research (e.g. scientific or medical experiments)
- Continuation of existing projects without expansion or new and innovative approaches

Applicants are requested, but not required, to submit a letter of intent to apply for this funding opportunity to assist ACL in planning for the application independent review process.
