The New York Stem Cell Foundation (NYSCF)

Grants to USA, Canada, and International early-career investigators at accredited academic and nonprofit research institutions for studies that explore the translational potential and basic biology of stem cells. Funding is intended to encourage innovative and bold scientists with the potential to transform the field of stem cell research, and advance the understanding and use of stem cells in the development of treatments for human disease.
In addition to providing funding, NYSCF partners with investigators to advance and translate their research.

The award provides $1.5M USD over 5 years (up to $300K USD per annum).
The funding is provided over 5 years beginning on January 1st.
To be eligible, candidates must:
-Have completed one or more of the following degrees: MD, PhD, DPhil;
-Be within 5 years of starting a faculty (professorship) or comparable position on June 1, 2019;
-Have demonstrated ability to independently supervise staff and research;
-Have a publication record containing articles that are innovative and high impact;
-Have demonstrated or strategized true innovation for translation of basic sciences to a clinical setting;
-Be based at an accredited academic or nonprofit research institution.
In addition, since routes to independence vary significantly outside of the United States, candidates based at institutions outside the United States should consider the following when assessing their eligibility:
- Do they write grants in their own name?
- Do they report directly to funding agencies rather than a senior colleague?
- Do they supervise their own graduate students and/or postdocs?
If the answer to any of these questions is yes, and the candidate has also met the other eligibility criteria, he/she may be eligible to apply. NYSCF Staff is available to provide additional information on eligibility.
All applications MUST be submitted through the online grant management system by February 20, 2019 at 5:00 pm Eastern. Finalists will be contacted in June / July and announced in October 2019.
Reference letters need to be received by the closing date. To guarantee reference letters are included in your application, you will need to make sure your referees submit their letters through the online system by the RFA closing date and time.
All applications must provide assurance of compliance with local research regulatory bodies and with local laws in advance of the award start date. Additionally, for applications using human embryonic stem cells, human tissue, or human trials, the candidate must obtain appropriate Embryonic Stem Cell Research Oversight Committee (ESCRO) and human subjects research approvals in advance of the award start date.
