Awards of $10,000 to USA organizations, groups, and individuals in recognition of volunteer projects that addressed needs in their local communities that occurred as part of a nationwide volunteer event on October 28, 2017. Cash awards are intended to help winning groups further their impact in their local community.
Make a Difference Day Grants are intended to honor exceptional volunteer events that take place during the 2017 Make a Difference Day event, that occur on Saturday, October 28, 2017. The project may span other days, but a significant part of the activity must occur on October 28.
Consideration will be given to projects that occur on Sunday, October 29, 2017, for groups who can not participate on Saturday for religious reasons.
13 national award winners will be chosen. These are 13 projects that go above and beyond in finding a need in their communities and completing a project to tackle that need. Projects can be supported by an individual, a group, a local government or mayor that has sponsored, organized, funded and/or staffed the event.
One All-Star Award Winner will also be chosen. This is a past winner that has demonstrated excellence in volunteerism this Make A Difference Day.

The project may span other days, but a significant part of the activity must occur October 28, 2017. If you can’t participate on Saturday for religious reasons – that is, if Saturday is your holy day – please volunteer Sunday, Oct. 29.
The Make A Difference Day Awards 2017 is open to all U.S. residents including active military members and their family members if stationed outside the U.S. (excluding residents of Puerto Rico) who are 8 years or older at the time of entry. Employees and contractors of TEGNA Inc., Arby’s Restaurant Group, Inc., Arby’s Foundation, Inc., Points of Light, HandsOn Network and each of their respective affiliated companies, and advertising and promotional agencies, and the immediate family members of, and any persons domiciled with, any such employees or contractors, are not eligible to win.
Online entries will be accepted from only those 13 years of age, or older. Online entries for persons between the ages of 8 and 13 may be submitted by a parent or legal guardian.
Make-A-Difference Day does not engage in philanthropic giving to organizations that it finds discriminate against a person or group because of race, color, religion, national origin, sex, age, marital status, personal appearance, family responsibilities, disability, enrollment in college or vocational school, political affiliation, veteran status or genetic information.
Make-A-Difference Day also does not engage in philanthropic giving to non-religious organizations that have a written policy of discrimination on the basis of sexual orientation and/or gender identity and/or have a policy explicitly permitting its own chapters, affiliates, etc. to discriminate.
All-Star Award honorees must be a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization established in the United States, in good standing, and satisfy the Make A Difference Day’s criteria listed above in order to receive the donation.
All entries must be received by Nov. 30, 2017. The 2017 winners will be announced by April 2018.
