Grants to Connecticut, Massachusetts, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, and Vermont nonprofit organizations to benefit communities in which the funding source has a business presence. Eligible program areas include education, economic development, and equity, diversity, and inclusion.

The mission of the Bank’s charitable Foundation is to strengthen and improve the quality of life in communities served by Berkshire Bank and/or its affiliates. Berkshire Bank Foundation, Inc. provides support in the following geographic areas in cities and towns where Berkshire Bank or its affiliates have an office:

-Massachusetts: Berkshire, Hampden, Hampshire, Franklin, Worcester, Middlesex, Essex, Suffolk, and Norfolk Counties
-New York: Albany, Schenectady, Saratoga, Washington, Columbia, Warren, Rensselaer, Fulton, Montgomery, Onondaga, Oneida, and Herkimer Counties
-Connecticut: Hartford, Tolland, New London County, Windham Counties
-Vermont: Bennington, Rutland, and Windsor Counties
-New Jersey: Mercer and Middlesex Counties
-Pennsylvania: Bucks and Montgomery Counties
-Rhode Island: Washingston and Newport Counties

The Foundation gives priority to the following types of requests:

- Programs and projects that benefit more than 51% low-moderate income individuals
- Programs and projects that offer Berkshire Bank employees opportunities to be involved through volunteer efforts and board service.
- Programs and projects with a demonstrated, tangible records of success

Additional Eligibility Criteria:

To be considered for grant funding organizations must:

-Be recognized by the IRS as a tax-exempt 501(c)(3) non-profit organization. Organizations that are not 501(c)(3 )are not eligible.
-Be located in or primarily provide service in a community where Berkshire Bank or its affiliates are located.

Ineligible Organizations and Requests:

-Fraternal, labor and political organizations, including fraternal orders of police and firefighters
-Lobbying groups
-Athletic teams or social groups
-Private Foundations
-Intermediary organizations that raise and distribute funds in their own name
-Annual memberships and annual appeals
-Fundraising events (e.g. golf tournaments, galas) – please submit a Community Sponsorship Request
-Underwriting support for conferences or seminars
-Scholarship Programs/Funds
-General operating support
-Individuals
-National Health Organizations
-Capital Campaigns
-K-12 Public or Private Schools
-Public or Private Colleges & Universities

Pre-Application Information:

The Foundation has three deadlines for grant applications. These requests are due by the dates listed below. The Foundation recommends submitting applications well in advance of the deadline so staff can reach out to discuss proposals further.

April 1: Due Date
April 2 - May 30: Review Period
June 1: Decision Date

July 1: Due Date
July 2 - August 30: Review Period
September 1: Decision Date

October 1: Due Date
October 2 - November 30: Review Period
December 1: Decision Date
