Open Hands Foundation
THE FOUNDATION HAD NO PROGRAM RELATED EXPENSES IN 2021 DUE TO THE ONGOING CONSTRAINTS POSED BY THE COVID-19 PANDEMIC. IN LIGHT OF THE AFGHAN REFUGEE CRISIS THAT EMERGED IN SEPTEMBER 2021, THE FOUNDATION JOINED THE WELCOME US COALITION PARTNERS, A NATIONAL INITIATIVE BUILT TO MOBOLIZE AMERICANS TO WELCOME AND SUPPORT INCOMING REFUGEES. IN TANDEM WITH THAT COMMITMENT, THE FOUNDATION MADE A GRANT OF $110,000 TO SUPPORT AFGHAN-LED CHARITIES ENGAGED IN DIRECT HUMANITARIAN AID TO AFGHAN REFUGEES IN THE UNITED STATES. THE FOCUS OF THE DONATION WAS TO PROVIDE CULTURALLY COMPETENT SUPPORT TO AFGHAN FAMILIES, INCLUDING SUPPLYING THEM WITH BASIC LIVING SUPPLIES, MENTAL HEALTH COUNSELING, LEGAL ASSISTANCE, INTERPRETATION AND TRANSLATION, HELP FINDING SCHOOLING, HOUSING OR JOBS, AND MORE.
