Grants to USA institutions of higher education to promote diversity in public health and health care. Applicants are advised that required registrations may take up to one month to complete. Funding is intended to encourage students from underserved or underrepresented backgrounds to enter Maternal and Child Health (MCH) public health and MCH-related health professions in order to improve levels of representation, reduce health disparities, and increase access to health care for vulnerable and underserved MCH populations, including those from racially/ethnically diverse backgrounds.
Few training programs currently focus on recruiting undergraduate students into MCH professions. The LEAP Program’s unique focus on recruiting diverse undergraduate student cohorts fills a critical gap by building and maintaining a diversified workforce that is reflective of and prepared to address the distinct needs of MCH populations. The specific objectives of the LEAP Program are to:

Up to six (6) grants
Up to $155,000 per year subject to the availability of appropriated funds
The period of performance is June 1, 2021 through May 31, 2026 (5 years). Funding beyond the first year is subject to the availability of appropriated funds for the LEAP Program in subsequent fiscal years, satisfactory recipient performance, and a decision that continued funding is in the best interest of the Federal Government.
