Grants of $50,000 per year to USA researchers affiliated with a nonprofit institution for studies related to respiratory illnesses. Funding is intended to support innovative projects that help detect, prevent, and treat lung disease. The goal of the grant program to stimulate and inform important public policy debates regarding healthy air and lung disease.
The grant supports research on and evaluation of existing public policy and programs, as well as projects that inject innovative ideas into public policies impacting lung health. Applications must include plans for public dissemination of the work, which should include information on how to use findings to support and promote important policy changes.

No more than 50% of the budget may be used for an awardee's salary and fringe benefits and no more than 30% may be used to fund the purchase of permanent equipment. Funds may be used for the salary and fringe benefits of personnel other than the applicant. Other permitted expenses include the purchase of large data sets.
