Description:

Request a Grant Writer

Grant of up to $6,000 to a USA, Canada, or International individual to advance the field of psychoanalysis. Priority will be given to proposals that address racism or Coronavirus (COVID-19). Funding is intended to support research, education, and service that impact society, with a special commitment for activities to help improve the health and well-being of underserved populations.

The future of psychoanalysis depends on countering the field’s insularity and increasing the public awareness of the benefits of psychoanalytic treatments and the applications of psychoanalytic thought to organizational and social problems. This year’s grant is designed to help build the profession’s capacity in this important area.

The fund has been established to recognize and promote the contributions of psychoanalysis to psychology as a science and profession. It encourages and supports programs in education, research, and service that will advance the profession and keep the psychological community and the public informed of developments in psychoanalytic scholarship, research, and practice. The fund will target populations that are in need of support, such as early-career professionals, students from diverse backgrounds, and therapists working with underserved populations.

Funding begins when recipients submit IRB approval and the required paperwork. APF funding will continue for a maximum of 12 months from the date of the grant, unless otherwise specified.

APF does not allow institutional indirect costs or overhead to be taken out of grant monies. The entire grant must be provided to the individual grantee for the stated purpose. The institution must affirm in writing that it will waive all administrative fees and charges for indirect costs. This assurance must be received before the funds can be released via the signature of an institutional official on the grant terms and conditions.

Institutional Review Board (IRB) approval is required for any research project involving human participants. APF cannot disburse grant monies without IRB approval. Successful applicants have six months from the date of the grant approval to obtain IRB approval, or the grant will be rescinded.
