Request a Grant Writer

Grants of up to $1,000 to New York nonprofit organizations in eligible locations for beautification projects that enhance local public areas. Funding is intended to support creative projects that bring community members together. Eligible projects take place in the City of Buffalo.

Both of the microgrants offered by Gardens Buffalo Niagara provide funds toward:

  • Community gardens
  • Street side planters
  • Historic garden restoration
  • Annuals for baskets
  • Tree planting
  • Street pole basket hangers
  • Rain gardens
  • Any public, garden-related project 

Project requirements: 

  • The project must be related to gardening and beautification.
  • The project must be community and/or neighborhood-oriented and include community participation, but it cannot be to the benefit of an individual’s personal garden or property.
  • The project must be visible from the street.

Funded projects need to be completed by mid-July.

Additional Eligibility Criteria:

Eligible:
- Non-profit organizations that have been designated 501(c)3 by the Internal Revenue Service (IRS).
- Non-profit organizations with a 501(c)3 sponsor, such as Board of Block Clubs of Buffalo and Erie County, Grassroots Gardens, Inc., etc.

Pre-Application Information:

Grant applications are due by February 28.

If your project is within the Garden Walk Buffalo footprint, apply for the Marvin Lunenfeld Beautification Grant. If your project is outside of the Garden Walk Buffalo footprint, apply for the Vibrant Buffalo Beautification Grant. If you apply for the wrong grant program, the funding source will move your application to the correct one.

The organization must provide matching funds equal to the amount requested: monetary, materials, or sweat equity.
