Grants to USA nonprofit organizations for projects that provide direct services to veterans and their families. Funding is intended for services such as life skills, job transition, legal support, therapy animals, homeless support, financial readiness, social support, and programs for female veterans.

VSF funds projects that directly affect veterans and their families. Projects that prove beneficial to veterans and develop a track record of providing needed services and/or performance may be considered for funding in subsequent years.

Grant categories: 

  • Female Veteran Support/Services: Programs that target female Veterans only.
  • Homeless Veteran Support/Services: This is for any program with a strict focus on support of homeless Veterans.
  • Service/Therapy Animal Support/Services: Programs that focus on the use of service or therapy animals.
  • Veteran Camaraderie: Any program that focuses on bringing Veterans together in a social environment such as a retreat.
  • Veteran Financial Support/Services: Programs that focus on financial readiness for Veterans.
  • Veteran Job/Transition Support/Services:  Any program that focuses on employment and/or assisting Veterans' transition from military to civilian.
  • Veteran Legal Support/Services: Programs that focus on any sort of legal support/training for Veterans.
  • Veteran Life Skills: Programs that focus on general life skills for Veterans.

Term of Contract:

The VSF funding grant year is October through September, thus funding of grants approved this year will begin in October.

Additional Eligibility Criteria:

IRS designated non-profit organizations may apply.

VSF will not fund projects for Bricks & Mortar, Faith-Based Organizations, Memorials, Monuments, and Museums.

Pre-Application Information:

Grant applications are accepted between October 1 and March 31st of each year. All grant applications must be submitted by midnight on March 31, 2020, of the year of the grant award.

Between April and June of each year, applications are reviewed, prioritized and voted on by the VSF Board of Directors. By late June, applicants will begin to be notified by e-mail whether or not they will be receiving funding for their project.

VSF gives priority to matching fund projects.
