Contract for services to a New York City nonprofit organization to operate a community-based prevention program at a designated public school site. The program will provide children, youth, adults, and seniors with a safe place to engage in community programming. The goal of the program is that the host school will become a resource for the whole community during non-school hours serving all ages: children K-12, adults, and seniors.
Beacons foster positive youth development and social and emotional learning and provide opportunities for youth leadership. Beacons also emphasize programming for adults that reflects their interests and needs. For this funding cycle, DYCD will look to contract with one community-based organization to operate a Beacon program at Truman High School, located in the Bronx.
Located in public schools across New York City and operating year-round in non-school hours on weekdays, weekends, and in the summer, each Beacon transforms its host school into a resource for the whole community by offering an integrated range of programming tailored to local needs. For all participants, especially youth, Beacons offer a safe place to engage in recreational activities, discover new interests, acquire skills, and find opportunities to contribute to the community, guided and supported by program staff.
