Request a Grant Writer

Grants ranging from $250 to $5,000 to USA nonprofit organizations, government entities, K-12 schools, IHEs, and faith-based organizations to support and strengthen communities in the Funding Source's service area. Funding is intended to support locally operating organizations that directly benefit the service area of the facility from which they are requesting funding. Proposed projects must benefit the community at large, such as soup kitchens, food pantries, and clothing closets.

Additional Eligibility Criteria:

Eligible nonprofit organizations must operate on the local level (or be an affiliate/chapter of a larger organization that operates locally).

Organizations applying must meet one of the following criteria:

- An organization holding a current tax-exempt status under Section 501(c)(3), (4), (6) or (19) of the Internal Revenue Code, listed in the IRS Master File that conduct activities in the United States.
- A recognized government entity: state, county, or city agency, including law enforcement or fire departments, that are requesting funds exclusively for public purposes;
- A K-12 public or private school, charter school, community/junior college, state/private college or university; or
- A church or other faith-based organization with a proposed project that benefits the community at large such as food pantries, soup kitchens, clothing closets, etc.

Nationally sponsored organizations, such as American Cancer Society, American Diabetes Association, American Heart Association, Children’s Miracle Network and United Way are not eligible to apply.

Funding exclusions include: organizations that deny service, membership or other involvement on the basis of race, religion, color, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, age, national origin, ancestry, citizenship, veteran, or disability status.

Walmart does not make grants directly to individuals. Other areas that are not funded include:

- Association/chamber memberships
- Athletic sponsorships (teams/events)
- Faith-based organizations when the proposed grant will only benefit the organization or its members
- Political causes, candidates, organizations or campaigns

Pre-Application Information:

The 2020 grant cycle begins Feb. 1, 2020 and the application deadline is Dec. 31, 2020.

Applications will only remain active in the system for 90 days, and at the end of this period, they will be automatically rejected.

If an organization is approved, grant checks will be mailed directly to the recipient’s address listed in the Cybergrant’s profile for the organization. Organizations are requested to allow four to six weeks for delivery.

Organizations may only submit a total number of 25 applications and/or receive up to 25 grants within the 2020 grant cycle.
