Foundation / Corporation
Allegany County Area Foundation (ACAF)
Grants ranging from $250 to $1,000 to New York nonprofits for social, educational, civic, and cultural projects that bring significant benefit to the residents of Allegany County. Priority will be given to special projects that are non-recurring rather than campaigns to fund general operations. Area service organizations like the SPCA, libraries and historical societies have all received grants.
In determining the merits and priority of an application, particular consideration will be given to the following criteria:
a. Seriousness of the problem and adequacy of the proposed action to meet the problem;
b. Breadth of the potential benefit in terms of the number of people affected;
c. Capability of the applicant organization and its personnel to achieve the expected benefits;
d. Availability of support from alternative public or private sources;
e. Possibility of future support to supplement or replace the proposed grant.
The Foundation will support and encourage the development of a new organization only when, in the judgment of the Board, no effective institution exists in the community to carry out a needed program or purpose.
