Grants of up to $3,000 to New York nonprofit organizations and government entities in eligible regions for community events that promote the local history and culture. Funding is intended to improve the quality of life for local residents through programs and events that are free and open to the public without discrimination. Events must take place within Tompkins County.

This grant funds community-led efforts to educate the public about our history and cultural inheritances; to improve understanding of local culture; and to expand contemporary culture in ways that are informative, educational, and just plain fun.

A Celebration is an event, program, or series of events endorsed by a municipality or recognized community. A celebration is also defined as an observance, commemoration, jubilation, inauguration, presentation, salute, or any other “red letter day” that has meaning for the community.

Examples of Community Celebrations that have been funded in the past include International Mud Day at the Ithaca Children’s Garden, Watermusic/Dancing on the Trail, Streets Alive!, Groton Cabin Fever Festival, GIAC Festival of Nations, and countless other favorite local events.

Eligible Activities

  • Local artists, performers, or providers of cultural programming
  • Promotion and marketing
  • Professional services needed to produce a successful celebration
  • Educational materials
  • Reusable banners
